Presentation by Project OrangeSurrey, BC, Canada—The Sikh youth of BC held a media training seminar called Project Orange this Friday, April 6th at the Guru Nanak Academy in Surrey. The aim of the event was to create awareness about Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, and to educate the Sikh youth about using media and other resources to voice their opinions.

Project Orange kicked off with an introduction to journalism and media by Harpreet Singh, a well-known T.V show host from Surrey. It was followed by a presentation on media bias that showed the attendees how to respond to biased articles in the media, with reference to recent biased articles written in the Canadian mainstream media.

This was followed by a presentation on being proactive, and doing something, anything to voice your opinion. From writing letters to newspapers, to writing articles about Sikhi and what Sikhi stands for.

After this, there were two workshops the first educated the youth on how to use tools such as Photoshop to create posters and other media to raise awareness for causes such as saving Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. The second workshop was on creating and editing videos to educate others about causes. There were tips given and information provided for those interested. Supplementary information was promised in an email from the organizers.

About 100 youth attended Project Orange, which was a huge success, inspiring many to raise their voices and let their opinions be known and to further the issues important to the Sikh community.
