Faridkot Police Torture Shopkeeper to Death

FARIDKOT, Punjab—”The 35-year-old victim, Chamkaur Singh of Khosa Pando village, who had a ‘kirana’ shop in the village, was picked up by the police on the charges of drug trafficking on Friday (April 08, 2012) evening. He was allegedly tortured, which led to his death the next morning,” reports The Tribune.

As per reports, officials are busy protecting their subordinates who were involved in this inhumane activity.

The Tribune: “Despite the body bearing injury marks highlighting physical torture, SP (H) Satpal Bhangu maintained that it primarily appeared to be a natural death. He said he was waiting for the report of the inquiry being conducted by a judicial magistrate and the post-mortem report. Till then, he was not in a position to take any action, SP is said to have added.”

“Paramjit Kaur, [the] victim’s wife, has alleged that some policemen had forcibly taken her signatures on two plain papers, which they could use anyway to save their skin. Another family member alleged that the police was constantly [pressuring] them to give ‘favourable’ statements before the CJM and the SDM, saying that they (family members) do not want any legal action.”
